Import Transfers Properly

Reported by Randy Becker | August 16th, 2009 @ 10:02 PM | in v1.6.9 (closed)

In Quicken, transfers between accounts are created by assigning a category with the account name in square brackets, i.e. "[Savings]." After importing into moneyGuru, however, transfer transactions are improperly turned into Income or Expense Accounts, instead of being properly noted as transfers between Asset or Liability accounts.

The QIF file is supposed to have a section at the beginning of the file describing the type of each account to come. This is what moneyGuru uses to know what type of account "[Savings]" is.

If moneyGuru can't properly do that, it would be a bug. Maybe it has something to do with the brackety name. If it was possible to have a sample QIF file (I don't have Quicken, the only time I had it was with Tiger, when it was bundled with OS X), it would be great.

Here's a sample transfer of $5 from Savings to Checking. After importing it into a new moneyGuru file, there are two transactions instead of one.

Oh, yes, I see. Even though the "Account" section in the QIF list those accounts without brackets, the transfer entries put brackets around the account name in the L section.

(from [359]) [#54 state:fixed] Fixed imports for QIF transfers. moneyGuru previously duplicated transactions as well as accounts.
