Option to display Debit/Credit instead of Increase/Decrease

Reported by Virgil Dupras | September 25th, 2009 @ 11:35 AM | in v2.1.0 (closed)

While the Increase/Decrease terms are more easily understandable, the are not the correct terms. There should be an option to display Credit/Debit instead of Increase/Decrease.

The split transaction makes use of Debit and Credit - great! Perhaps a note to explain this is the opposite of what shows on the bank statement for those who don't have an accounting background. So, why is it the columns in the Account view are headed "increase" and "decrease"? I could cope with this, except that the increase is always the left column, regardless of whether the amount is a debit or credit (depending on whether it's a checking account or credit card account etc. Wouldn't it make more sense to reverse the headings, rather than the columns of figures? I always have to stop and think when I look at them at the moment: ie when making a payment to the credit card, both transactions are in the right-hand column. (Just sticking with debit and credit works well for me, given it's used elsewhere in the application, but I realise it might not for everyone. Maybe include it as an option?)

Adding debit/credit labels as an option is a "nice to have", but my main concern was column order - ie that the debits go in the left columns THROUGHOUT MG and likewise the credits in the right. Suggest reverse headings in liability/income accounts for those who prefer increase/decrease headings (as well as the option for debit/credit headings).
