Honor the transaction reconcile flag in QIF files during import
Reported by Geoffrey Lowney | November 8th, 2011 @ 04:07 AM
When my Quicken data is imported, all the transactions show up as unreconciled--even though the QIF identifies reconciled transactions properly. I might even be happy if all the transactions came in as reconciled rather than not (since 99% of my transactions are reconciled in Quicken). I think it would be great if the QIF reconciliation flag was honored during import (an option could be provided to enable this feature).

I also think it would be a good thing to do, but I wonder how to present the functionality in the UI. There's already an Import checkbox bound the the space bar for its toggling (the same toggling binding as reconciliation in the Account view).
Does it make sense to allow the user to change the reconciliation flag in the import window? Could there be a case where entries are reconciled in the QIF but shouldn't be reconciled when imported?
As a side note: You are aware that doing mass reconciliation in moneyGuru is easy right? So if you want to reconcile all your transactions, just select the All Transactions date range, shift-select your transactions and press the space bar.

Good question. I was originally thinking that there could just be a checkbox or popup menu to let the user decide to "mark everything reconciled", "mark everything not reconciled", or "use the reconciliation flag in the QIF". That would be similiar, and a pretty natural extension, to what it does now (where everything is just marked as not reconciled on import).
I could certainly see allowing the reconciliation flag to be overridden on each imported transaction using a checked (defaulting to the value in the file if there is one). Obviously you would not be able to toggle using the spacebar since it is already bound to something else (what are your rules/guidelines about binding keystrokes, etc?). Do you think it would be something that would be used?
Thanks for the side note. I was not aware of how easy it was to "mass reconcile" as you described (I don't recall seeing that in the docs). That is good to know. I still think honoring the flag in the QIF would be good :)
