Change keybinding for account exclusion

Reported by Virgil Dupras | July 27th, 2010 @ 08:55 AM | in v2.1.0 (closed)

Too often, I receive e-mails about confused users when their accounts are greyed out. It means they accidentally excluded their account. My guess is they did it with the space keybinding. It's too easy to accidentally press it. Change that binding to something else.

I wonder if there's a better way to make this less confusing, like a checkbox. Users could then click to re-enable an account, making it more discoverable. Enabling and disabling accounts with the space bar made me feel like a ninja.

Accounting Ninja, now that's something :)

IMHO, checkboxes would make the interface too heavy. There's already the little arrow. When I added the exclusion feature, I tested how it looked with include/exclude icons visible on all rows, and it was rather ugly, so I made them only visible for the selected row. I think the problem would be the same with checkboxes.

I feel sad for letting the ninja feeling go though...

Ah, I forgot about the include/exclue icons over there on the right. I suppose these proposed checkboxes could replace their functionality. I was thinking of something on the left, like the attached OmniOutliner screenshot.

The ninja feeling is one of the big reasons I love moneyGuru. Its radically unique feature is the lack of reports. They aren't needed, because the keyboard shortcuts let you rapidly slice and dice your data, answering any question in an instant.

Maybe this could be modal, like reconciling: use the current cmd+shift+x shortcut to enter and exit inclusion/exclusion mode, causing all of the checkboxes to appear, toggleable by the spacebar.
